INTERVIEW WITH DR. LAYTON FRIESEN

Discussion Questions

  1. Did God really think that Adam might find community among animals or why is the creation story told in this way?

  2. Layton seems to suggest that the basis of human community is found in the relationship between a man and woman or men and women. Do you agree? Is that a good thing for people who don’t marry, or who find themselves single again? Or does that disadvantage them?

  3. Do you identify with Layton’s example of the Billy Joel song and his statement that there is an inner loneliness and fear that resides in us because we're chasing this unresolvable dilemma of individualism and community?

  4. How would you respond to Layton’s statement that “true Christ-centered communion where both the individual and the community will be beautiful and strong and resilient and respected.” Is this a vision you could get behind?
