INTERVIEW WITH DR. PATRICK FRANKLIN

Discussion Questions

  1. Dr. Franklin covers material that is quite familiar to most people in the church—that Christ becomes one of us and in him, we have community—unity with each other. Think back on a fairly fresh hot conflict between Christians close to you—maybe one you were part of. What was so important to “combatants” about the issue at the centre of the conflict that the common relationship with Christ didn’t seem able to overcome the hostility?

  2. In hindsight, what might they (or you) have done to maintain unity in spite of the difference(s)?

  3. Reflection:

    • If reconciliation hasn’t happened yet, what could be done now to reconcile?

    • In light of the conflict on your mind, reflect on Patrick’s description of God’s solidarity with us and the divine exchange: Jesus draws us “into what he has, taking from us our alienation and giving back to us our oneness, our reconciliation in God.”
