INTERVIEW WITH DR. PATRICK FRANKLIN

Discussion Questions

  1. Does the ancient understanding of “good” as meaning “functioning well” shed any light on what God means when he repeats that phrase throughout the first chapter?

  2. We use the phrase “image of God” in a lot of our discussions currently as we talk about abortion, MAiD and gender/sexuality. Why is it such an important concept? Do you believe you have a good grasp on the implications of all humanity being in the image of God? Of how it applies both to the issues of our time, issues of the past like slavery and to the everyday treatment of people we encounter?

  3. Why does Franklin (and Luther and Bonhoeffer) describe freedom “from you” as a kind of captivity? Wouldn’t it seem more logical that the Christian concept of freedom “for you” and “for God” is a kind of captivity?
